SKY ECC dismantles Albanian-Italian cocaine trafficking organization, 14

A large-scale anti-drug operation has led to the dismantling of an Italian-Albanian criminal network that trafficked cocaine from Colombia to Europe. The news was confirmed today by Belgian authorities, who announced the arrest of 14 people and the carrying out of 11 checks as part of this international investigation.

The investigations began in 2022, after Belgian police managed to intercept suspicious data through the encrypted messaging app Sky ECC, which has previously been used by structured criminal groups to evade police pursuit.

The operation was coordinated by the Carabinieri of Borgo San Lorenzo in Italy, while Europol was later involved in cooperation with the international @ON network, funded by the European Union and led by the Italian Antimafia Directorate (DIA).

According to investigative data, it involved two criminal organizations that cooperated closely:

The Albanian group was responsible for contacts with suppliers in Colombia and the importation of cocaine through the ports of Antwerp (Belgium) and Le Havre (France).
The Italian group, based in the Brabant Wallon region, processed the cocaine in a specialized laboratory and distributed it throughout Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, using modified vehicles.
The investigation lasted 684 days, with over 15,500 hours of work, and in addition to the arrests, also led to the discovery of a sophisticated money laundering scheme.

Among the biggest results of the operation is the seizure of 667 kilograms of cocaine in the French port of Le Havre, which was one of the key points of trafficking in narcotics.

Authorities consider this operation to be a successful example of international cooperation in the fight against organized crime, underlining the importance of information exchange and coordinated action between EU countries.
