New details have come to light regarding the tragic accident at the chrome mine in Katjel, Prrenjas, where 58-year-old Syrja Bego lost his life. The mine administrator, Gëzim Balla, in a statement to "BalkanWeb" expressed sadness and regret for the event that took the life of the experienced miner.

According to Balla, the mine gallery has not been functional for several days and during this time work was done to create optimal safety conditions for the resumption of activity.

"Over the last few days, the gallery has been working to create optimal working conditions. Today, around noon, everything was ready to resume the normal work process," Balla said.

He said that the company's technical director, Hysni Kllogjri, had inspected safety conditions and conducted the usual training with the miners, emphasizing the rigorous implementation of safety standards.

“The safety of miners' lives is and will be one of our most important principles in this venture,” he said.

According to preliminary information, the tragedy occurred as a result of a collapse in the gallery ceiling. Miner Bego was hit in the head by a stone, suffering fatal injuries.

"The shift manager, Gëzim Kllogjri, informed me of the tragic accident. This event has shocked us and I feel very hurt," Balla concluded.

Authorities are at the scene and have launched investigations to determine responsibilities and the specific causes of the accident.
