Greek notary killed with intent to rob her, 3 Albanians arrested

Three Albanians have been arrested for the murder of a 69-year-old notary in Zakynthos, Greece, while attempting to rob her in her apartment.

Arrested are a father, son, and a friend of theirs, who ambushed the notary as she was returning home and forced their way into her apartment.

The key to solving the case, according to investigative sources, was the arrest of one of the perpetrators, who lived in Nemea. During interrogation, and after being presented with evidence, he confessed in detail what had happened on the fateful night.

According to his testimony, he had traveled to Zakynthos the day before the murder, having been in contact with another associate who lived on the island and knew that the victim had money at home. The two men stayed in a rented room that was provided by the person who, according to the testimony, committed the fatal act.

"We put on hoods, masks and gloves, we ambushed them," the man from Nemea is reported to have said.

He adds that when they saw the woman returning home, they attacked her to take her keys and get in. “I tried to open the door, but I saw that she had fallen and was bleeding. I told her to ‘get out’ and we left.”

After the incident, two of the perpetrators walked away for about an hour and then called the first's son to pick them up in a car. Along the way, they threw away their knives and burned their clothes to cover their tracks.

For about two months after the murder, they reportedly had no contact with each other at all, apart from a few rare phone calls, in an attempt to avoid being linked to the event.

According to police information, the two men, a father and his friend from Nemea, worked in construction and decided to carry out the robbery, targeting the notary who lived alone. The son of the main suspect acted as the driver.

The man who stabbed the victim in the inner left thigh, causing uncontrollable bleeding, is believed to be the father. However, he has not admitted responsibility for the act, unlike his accomplices, including his son.

The victim was found unconscious the next morning by her son, near the front steps of the house, near her car.

The forensic examination confirmed that death was due to a wound caused by a sharp and penetrating instrument, which caused massive bleeding and rapid death.
