Police raid Kosovo's Ministry of Agriculture

Kosovo Police are conducting raids at the Ministry of Agriculture regarding suspicions related to the animal waste factory.

"The raids are being conducted on suspicions of an animal waste factory. For further details, the public will be informed during the day," Special Prosecution spokeswoman Arbnora Luta told Radio Free Europe earlier on May 27.

The Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Admir Shala, then during a media appearance indicated that the raids are being carried out at the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Development Agency, the Veterinary Agency, as well as at the location of the beneficiary company.

"As you know, the Special Prosecution Office has launched an investigation regarding the leasing of a factory for the processing of animal products. The investigation is ongoing regarding the suspicions of leasing this factory.

We are in the investigation phase, we are conducting the search and controls based on the order of the preliminary procedure judge of the Basic Court of Pristina at the request of the Special Prosecution Office.

"Also, with our authorization, the police, together with us, are taking the necessary actions in order to provide the necessary information and to clarify the specific case," he said.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo had reacted to the animal waste factory a day earlier. According to this party, the acting Minister of Agriculture, Faton Peci, leased the property for the animal waste plant to a company for 20 years without a public auction.

PDK said that the Ministry of Agriculture has violated the Law on Public Property, which it said provides that public properties can only be leased through public auction and for no more than 15 years, except in cases where a decision is made in the Kosovo Assembly. /REL/
