DP denounces: Emirjana Sako on the eve of the campaign seeks to buy votes with

The chairman of the Democratic Party in Durrës, Dritan Burgija, denounced the mayor of the city, Emiriana Sako, for misuse of earthquake funds.

Burgija said in a statement to the media that even though 4 years have passed since the earthquake of November 26, some of the citizens of Durrës continue to stay in tents.

Burgija stated that in such a situation when the citizens do not receive an answer from the Municipality and on the eve of the elections, Emirana Sako has urgently called the meeting of the Municipal Council for the earthquake funds.

The statement of the head of the Democratic Party of Durrës:

Four years have passed since the November 2019 earthquake, but the citizens of Durrës continue to live in tents or outside their homes.

It is clear to everyone that Albania is not yet in the condition of the natural disaster of the earthquake, but the citizens affected by this disaster are in the condition of the disaster caused by misgovernance and abuse of power and public funds.

The citizens of Durrës continue to knock on the doors of the town hall because they need them again for the next mayoral elections.

By dragging out the process and the funds allocated to her, the mayor of Durrës waits for the elections to approve grants and lists of beneficiaries by holding meetings of the City Council, called out of order, in an emergency, and violating the Electoral Code. Article 91 paragraph 4 expressly prohibits the allocation of public funds in favor of voters for a period of time of 4 months before the election date.

The State Election Commission fined Emirjana Sako for such violations in the previous elections as well.

Of course, Sako's plight is great and although it is repetitive in its violations, it does not stop using the same methods that have been denounced by the DP, civil society and have been recorded in the OSCE/ODIHR report.

The citizens of Durrës are tired and can't wait for their lives to return to normal.

They will not forgive a minute of abuse of power with their misfortune.

The government's small copies of corruption and scandals on May 14 will receive the deserved response.
