Pogoni: The Electoral Assembly of the Albanian National Olympic Committee is illegal

The Democratic Party has reacted to the Electoral Assembly expected to be held tomorrow by the Albanian National Olympic Committee, describing it as illegal.

In a press statement, the head of the Sports Department at the Democratic Party, Artan Pogoni, accused the current leaders of the National Sports Council of open legal violations.

"The Electoral Assembly to be held tomorrow by the Albanian National Olympic Committee, in violation of the decisions of international courts, is illegal.

"This Assembly is convened by an illegally elected President, with the support of federations that themselves operate outside the law, in a legal violation certified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne."

According to the DP, the process is being carried out in secret and with unjustified haste, just 19 days before the political elections, which according to Pogoni shows fear and a lack of transparency.

He underlined that many of the most important federations in the country, including Football, Basketball and university sports, have boycotted this process.

"The process is taking place in secrecy, in a senseless rush, just 19 days before the political elections, an action that shows fear, not transparency.

We call on all remaining members to show conscience and dignity by refusing to participate in an illegal and politically controlled process.

The Democratic Party will not recognize any electoral process or organization that violates the law and the principles of fair sport.
