Lulzim Basha resigned as chairman of the Democratic Party. Basha communicated the decision at the convened meeting with the parliamentary group, members of the presidency as well as Democratic Party leaders in the districts.

In his speech, Basha said that he has decided to take a step back by resigning from the post of chairman of the Democratic Party, in order to help the resurgence and unification of Democrats and the Democratic Party as the only hope for Albanians.

But after this decision, who will now take over the leadership of the Democratic Party? According to the PD statute, with the withdrawal of the chairman, one of the deputy chairmen, Enkelejd Alibeaj or Jorida Tabaku, will take over the leadership of the party.

According to the DP statute, the Secretary General convenes the National Council, which commands the Vice President who will lead the Party until the incumbent returns to office or the new Chairman is elected.
