Ahmed Kalaja risks up to 3 years in prison

The Tirana Prosecution Office has brought to trial the case against the well-known imam Ahmed Kalaja, who is accused of the criminal offense of "Acts that hinder the discovery of the truth", committed in collaboration, an offense that provides for a fine or up to three years in prison.

Ahmed Kalaja, who runs the “Dine Hoxha” mosque on Kavaja Street, is accused of obstructing investigators during an operation by the anti-terrorist directorate in 2022 by refusing to hand over footage from security cameras installed on the mosque premises. The investigations concerned individuals suspected of distributing leaflets with content that incited hatred and division among believers.

Kalaja, speaking to the media, denied the allegations, calling the matter a "misunderstanding" and emphasizing that he has been cooperative with authorities at every step of the process.
