"Scandal", "terror" and "eagle": Serbian media dramatize the draw in Tirana, forget the violence in Belgrade

"Scandal", "terror" and "eagle": Serbian media

Serbian newspaper "Pink" writes that Albanian fans showed violent behavior for the Albania-Serbia match, which ended in a goalless draw (0-0), at the Tirana stadium. This duel, part of the World Cup qualifiers, had echoes beyond football, becoming a test of tension, restraint and controversial refereeing decisions.

According to Serbian sources, the atmosphere in the Albanian capital was extremely tense, with the situation sometimes spiraling out of control. Serbian media reported that some of the Serbian national team players were hit with objects thrown by fans in the stands, causing the game to be interrupted several times. Serbian media strongly condemned the public's behavior and criticized the referee for his lack of reaction to the incidents.

One of the largest Serbian portals wrote that, according to UEFA rules, the referee had to order the evacuation of the stands or permanently stop the match. It was further emphasized that if such a situation had occurred in Belgrade, continuing the match would have been an option that would not have been considered.

Other Serbian media outlets have also covered the entire match with the terms "terror, scandal, our players are attacking us" even though nothing like that happened, excluding the throwing of several plastic cups at Serbian players.

The children's gesture when they made the double-headed eagle with their hands, in a childish and enthusiastic way, was described as follows: "So much hatred in Tirana! Scandals never end... the children showed the Albanian eagle during the singing of our national anthem, look at the terrible scenes that terrified everyone!

"SERBIAN FOOTBALLERS SAVE THEIR LIVES IN TIRANA: A scandalous match that should have been BANNED! Gjorgje Petrović brought us a point against Albania," is the headline of the match's closing news.

While Blic writes: "Although it didn't seem like it would be the case, especially when you look at the atmosphere before the match, Dragan Stojkovic's team survived a real hell. Three times our boys were hit in the head, Davide Massa briefly interrupted the duel, but he didn't have the courage to show the players the way to the locker room. Let's not talk about the scandal before the match, when the children showed a double-headed eagle on the field."

But it seems that the Serbian media has forgotten the violence that was inflicted on our footballers 11 years ago in Belgrade, which led to the interruption of the match and a 0-3 victory on the table for Albania.
