A shocking event took place this Saturday in the capital of Colombia, where the presidential candidate, Miguel Uribe Turbay, was shot during an electoral rally.

According to local media, the 39-year-old was shot three times, of which two bullets hit him in the head while he was giving a speech to his supporters in a park in Bogotá. The police announce that they have arrested a suspect at the scene, while investigations are ongoing.

His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, has reacted through a public statement, calling for prayers across the country.

"Miguel is currently fighting for his life," she said.
The event has caused strong reactions at home and abroad, while the political situation in Colombia is viewed with increased concern.
