Immigrant in Sweden accuses CEC of violating the secrecy of his vote

An Albanian immigrant living in Sweden has raised serious concerns about the voting process in Albania, accusing the Central Election Commission (CEC) of violating the secrecy of his vote.

In a complaint made on the show "Fiks Fare", the immigrant said that the yellow envelope in which he sent his ballot contains a barcode that is thought to contain his personal data.

"Where is the secrecy of the vote, when the data on the envelope can identify my vote?" asks the immigrant, adding that this constitutes a clear violation of the law and the constitutional principle of secret voting.

The Albanian diaspora voting process for the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025 has involved a significant financial investment, with expenses exceeding 13 million euros. These funds have been used to build the technological infrastructure, postal services and administrative support necessary to enable the participation of Albanian citizens abroad in the electoral process. But again, emigrants are unclear.

The Fiks Fare program also requested a response from the Central Election Commission regarding the concern raised by the immigrant. The CEC explains that the envelope containing the ballot is a white envelope. This is placed in another envelope containing the voter's data. When it arrives, the envelope containing the address is torn and the white envelope is kept.

Everyone gathers and then the counting process takes place. This entire procedure is monitored by cameras and broadcast live on the CEC's YouTube channel. The emigrants' votes will go to the races in each district where they resided before emigrating.
