Child diagnosed with dysentery, kindergarten in Laç closed

A case of dysentery has raised the alarm among health and local authorities in the city of Laç, after a minor child was diagnosed with this infectious disease.

The minor had been running a fever for several days, and was then taken to the Tirana University Hospital Center (TUNH), where tests confirmed the presence of dysentery.

A working group has begun disinfecting the kindergarten premises where the child attended, to prevent the further spread of the infection.

Meanwhile, Public Health experts have taken samples for analysis, while the kindergarten will reopen only after the final results are released.

Dysentery is an infectious disease caused by bacteria or parasites, which can be spread through contaminated water or food, causing severe diarrhea, fever and dehydration. Authorities are calling for increased hygiene and extra care to prevent further cases.
