"Finiqi, one day after Qamet" or an apology in aid of Minister Gonxhe

"Finiqi, one day after Qamet" or an apology in aid of Minister Gonxhe

By Auron Tare
In fact, I do not want and would not like to get into a controversy with the Minister of MEKI on the destruction of Ancient Finic.
The blame for this tragedy does not rest on the shoulders of a Minister who has just sat in a chair that his predecessors used only for their political make-up or visits to Paris. Most likely, Mr. Minister has never visited Finiq. If he had visited it, he would not have tried to publish apologetic photos of his subordinates who have no idea what Finic Park is.
The problem of protecting cultural monuments is actually much deeper than the debate whether the ruins in Finiq were burned or not. Every humble connoisseur of Heritage knows very well what a fire with the size of such ancient monuments can do. The Finic disaster has nothing to do with Minister Gonxhe.
The fundamental problem is the abandonment and forgetting of the chain of National Heritage in the years of the post-communist period. Institutional indifference and the destruction of institutions dedicated to their protection.
Today, the Republic of Albania does not have an institution that deals exclusively with the management of Cultural Heritage. We have some fragmented institutions that have lost their functions for the benefit of heritage preservation. The system of guardians, the former atelier, the restoration specialists, the daily maintenance workers, the local guides, the guardians of the monuments have been replaced by tender companies.
The destruction and concreting of every cultural trace with the silent institutional approval has brought an anti-inheritance spirit which today is very difficult to stop. Professors with scientific degrees are silent, waiting for the next alms from the hand that signs the tenders for Heritage. Their voice and opinion no longer have value as they have been part of the destruction of the values they once took the ranks to protect.
Butrint, universal World property, for example, is given under the administration of a foreign private bank. The excavations were carried out by archaeologists who declared on National TV that the locals were once shepherds who did not belong to the discovered Hellenic culture. The Protected Area of the Park is under the pressure of construction. Well-known journalists advertise buildings with or without (secret permit) in the Protected Area. The public is totally indifferent. This is the reality. A good part of our Fortresses are already restaurants or pizzerias where the whole normal world has those pieces of historical educational heritage.
I could make a very long list of
problems but I would waste the reader's time. Therefore, it is pointless to blame the Minister for Finic's fate. After all, even that transient is in this whole Mesele.
