The German German media 'DerSpiegel' raises doubts: Are the Europeans

The well-known German media "DerSpiegel" has listed strong doubts about how the Europeans are turning a blind eye to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, putting him at the center of criticism for his governance.

"Ursula von der Leyen calls him 'dear Eddie', this is already a signal," says Frauke Seebass from the Brussels office of the Foundation for Science and Policy: " You have to see the Rama phenomenon in a wider context - from the EU here. It is about a business-like approach to trying to stabilize the Western Balkans; Rama, unlike Aleksandar Vucic in Serbia, is considered not anti-European, much more comfortable; That's why it was decided to close their eyes, if not both."
Will Rama get rich at the expense of others? "From Brussels' perspective, this is not so important, " says Seebass: "Albania's accession to the EU is not up for debate in the near future anyway," he adds.
The head of the government himself told the Italian state television Rai: " Frankly, I don't see that politics in Albania was poisoned by the mafia." Ahmetaj's claim that mafia bosses entered and exited his office is a false imposition, all the more destructive since "people tend to believe lies and not the truth."
Rama fears for the reputation of his country. "When it comes to EU membership, our patience is almost infinite," assured Prime Minister SPIEGEL two years ago in his villa on the Adriatic: Albania was an isolated dictatorship, "North Korea in Europe, in which it was still dangerous to listen to the Beatles in the late eighties, so I say that, in absolute terms, we have achieved more in these 30 years than any other country in Europe.
