Changes to the Highway Code: young drivers will not use vehicles with high engine power for 2 years, the validity of the license is extended

Yesterday, the Assembly approved with 102 votes in favor the proposed amendments to the Road Code, which aim to reduce the number of road accidents, which have become more frequent and tragic in recent days.

From holding a driving license for the first two years, new drivers will have restrictions on both the speed they can drive and the type of vehicle they drive. Another change in the Highway Code is the extension of the validity of the license up to 15 years.

Amendments approved

-B category driving license holders, in the first 2 years of issuance, are not allowed to drive motor vehicles with a specific power, referred to the empty weight of the vehicle, greater than 55Kċ/ton! For hybrid electric or plug-in cars, the specific power limit is 65 KW/t, including battery weight.  

-Citizens whose Albanian driving license has been canceled due to the effect of conversion abroad, can regain the Albanian driving license without testing, directly and if the foreign driving license has expired, after handing it in and voluntarily giving it up.

- Extension of the right to exercise the profession of driving school instructor up to 70 years old, from 65 years old which is currently.
