The Water Regulatory Authority has decided to increase the price of water following the request of two companies that administer 12 units or municipalities.

The price increase was made mainly for the family category, while no revisions were made for businesses and public institutions, with the exception of a few rare cases.

But which are the two companies that have actually applied for price increases and the new tariffs that citizens will pay after the decision comes into effect?

Firstly, the Shkodra Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company sh.ae, which covers Shkodra, Vau e Dejës, Puka, Fushë Arrzi and Malësia e Madhe.

For families in Shkodër and Vau e Dejës there is a 37.5 percent increase in the price of drinking water, while for businesses and institutions there is no change. Families will pay 55 lek per m3 of water.

For Vau i Dejës, the water price increase is 31 percent, while for Fushë Arrëz this increase has doubled, where from the 20 lekë m3 currently paid after the decision enters into force, the tariff will be 40 lekë/m3 of water. For Puka, the price increase is calculated at 14.2 percent, where from 35 lekë they will pay 40 lekë m3. These tariffs will be paid from January 1, 2025.

The WRA has also approved a price review for the regional utility in Gjirokastra. According to the new and current prices, the increase in this case has mainly included family members.

Specifically, families in Gjirokastra will pay an 8.6 percent higher price compared to the current price. Today, m3 of water is paid for 46 lek, while with the new price it is 50 lek per m3. In Përmet, the increase is estimated at 25 percent, where from 40 lek they will pay 50 lek per m3 of water.

In Tepelena, the increase is estimated at 51.5 percent, and the same in Memaliaj. In Kelcyra, the increase is 35 percent, where there is a price review for public institutions with an increase of 20 lek per m3 of water compared to the current price.

The price increases, although at more moderate levels, are also applied in Dropull and Libohova. For this company as well, the new prices will come into effect from January 1, 2025./ Monitor
