The investigation that led to Operation Hinterland began in March 2021, following the seizure of 316 kilograms of cocaine in Hamburg, Germany.

Following the seizure of the drugs, a supplier of Paraguayan nationality was identified who was receiving cocaine produced in Bolivia and other countries and entering Brazil through Ponta Porã.

The drugs were then transported by truck to Santa Catarina and Río Grande do Sul, where the cargoes were stored in the criminal organization's companies near the ports of Río Grande and Itajaí.

From there the cargo was contaminated into legitimate shipments in cooperation with logistics managers to be sent to the European continent.

Meanwhile in Europe, a citizen of Albanian origin was responsible for the distribution in different countries of the region.
