Tragic explosion in The Hague, engineer of Albanian origin, father of three,

A major explosion that occurred a few days ago in The Hague, where part of a building collapsed, killed six people, including 44-year-old Vikel Kamberaj, a civil engineer of Albanian-Greek nationality. Kamberaj, who had lived in the Netherlands for more than two years, was the father of three children: a 7-month-old boy, a 6-year-old girl and another 10-year-old boy.

Kamberaj moved from Greece to the Netherlands in August 2022, after a difficult period due to the economic crisis and the coronavirus pandemic. He saw this step as an opportunity for a better life for his family.

His wife, Maria Apostokali, in an interview with the NL Times, described the loss of the 44-year-old as devastating for family and friends. She recounts moments of anxiety as she watched the news about the explosion and fire in Tawerekamp, The Hague, while her children constantly asked about their father's condition.

"We thought we would all move for a better life, better schools and because there is no violence in the Netherlands. But it's ironic, because we lived in Greece for so many years and nothing happened," she said.

The tragedy has left a huge void in Kamberaj's family, while Dutch authorities continue their investigations to determine the causes of the explosion that caused this disaster.
