Tirana continues to be overpopulated, Gjirokastra, Berati and Dibra are

Tirana is the only county in the country, which recorded an increase in population in 2022, compared to the previous year, while the other 11 counties recorded a decrease. The capital grew by 0.6%, registering over 925 thousand inhabitants on January 1 of this year.

The largest population decreases were recorded in the counties of Gjirokastër (- 3.6%), Berat (- 3.1%) and Dibër (- 2.9%). According to official statistics, Tirana occupies about 33.5% of the total population, continuing to be one of the most populated districts of the country, followed by Durrës and Fieri with 10.5% and 9.8% respectively.

As for the other counties, five of them occupy respectively from 1.9% to 4.1% of the total population. Demographic movements have increased compared to a year ago. In 2022, the number of immigrants was 13,963 people: 51.9% more, compared to 2021, writes klantv.

At the national level, the population has decreased to 2,761,785 inhabitants, suffering a decrease of 1.1%, compared to January 1, 2022.
