The Greek ambassador in our country, Kostantina Kamitsi, spoke to the media after the decision of the Appeal of the Special Court that upheld the sentence for Fredi Beleri.

While leaving the premises of SPAK, the Greek ambassador raised her doubts about the decision that ultimately leaves the elected mayor of Himara behind bars.

"Unfortunately, many aspects of this case raise questions regarding the objectivity of the process, such as the issue of violation of the presumption of innocence, prolonged detention, disproportionate punishment and the denial of the right to swear. Despite the wishes of the people of Himara, as they expressed through the election process, the municipality is still run today by people who were not elected by the voters. Mr. Beleri is officially an elected member of the European Parliament. It is a democratic request that the MEPs have the opportunity to appear in the works of the EP starting from the first session of July" , she said.
