Terrorist attacks in Kosovo, Osmani from Brussels: There is evidence that makes Serbia responsible
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said on December 4 that during the meetings she held in Brussels with senior officials of the European Union, she requested cooperation and that the focus be on preventing "new terrorist attacks", after the attack in Zubin Potok.
On November 29, the Ibër-Lepenci canal in Zubin Potok was attacked with explosive devices.
Even the European Union has described the attack on Kosovo's critical infrastructure as a "terrorist act" and a "sabotage act". Osmani spoke to journalists after the meetings he held first with the new president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and then with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
The president said that in these meetings they discussed the latest attack in Zubin Potok on the water channel and the new dangers that may come to Kosovo from other eventual attacks.
She said that at the meetings in Brussels, she reconfirmed Kosovo's full readiness to invite international partners to participate in the investigation of the November 29 explosion.
"Responsibility must be demanded for the continuous attacks which Serbia, through its illegal structures, is carrying out against Kosovo", she said.
Asked how convincing are the evidence presented by Kosovo regarding Serbia's responsibility for these attacks, after some European officials have stated that there should be no haste with prejudices about guilt, Osmani said that there is enough evidence that makes Serbia responsible.
"The institutions of Kosovo never deal with prejudices, but with concrete evidence. The arrested persons are members of the terrorist organization "Civil Defense". The members of this organization are both appointed by Serbia and paid by official Belgrade. Even if there was no other connection, the fact that these people are officials of Belgrade, paid, supported, trained for such attacks by Belgrade, proves enough for the involvement of Serbia", said President Osmani.
Osmani referred to one of the two organizations that the Government of Kosovo declared terrorist last year.
The President of Kosovo also said that the latest attack in Zubin Potok's Varraghe, according to experts, was carried out by professionals who had to have military training for such an attack.
"We understand that EU and NATO countries have their own procedures to confirm someone's responsibility. They can even last a long time, however, as far as Kosovo is concerned, here we are not dealing with prejudices, nor with political statements, but with findings based on evidence", said Osmani.
"It is a tactic to divert attention from the real perpetrators of such an attack. Serbia has used such tactics in the past. He did it during the war in Croatia, using paramilitary structures, claiming that Serbia has nothing to do with them. So the 'shoot the rock and hide your hand' tactic. The same tactic was used in the attack of September 2023, and even now," she said, adding that Kosovo cooperates with international partners to prevent any scenario for any eventual attack in the future.
On September 24, 2023, in Banjska of Zveçan, a group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo Police, killing a policeman. During the exchange of fire that followed, three Serbian attackers were killed.
Kosovo has blamed Serbia for the attack, but Belgrade has denied involvement.
The responsibility for the attack in Banjska has been taken by Millan Radoiçiqi, the former vice-president of Lista Serbe, the main party of Serbs in Kosovo that enjoys the support of Belgrade.
Kosovo has requested the arrest and extradition of Radoicic to Kosovo, as he is believed to be in Serbia.
Osmani said that in the meetings he held on Wednesday in Brussels, he requested the removal of the punitive measures that the EU has imposed on Kosovo and the review of Kosovo's application for membership in the EU, which Pristina submitted to Brussels two years ago, but which has not been put on the agenda at all by the institutions of the European bloc.
Meanwhile, last year the EU imposed punitive measures against Kosovo due to tensions in the north of the country, inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
As for the punitive measures, which she described as unfair, the Kosovar president said that she has asked Costa and Metsola to help ensure the support of all EU member states for their removal.
Otherwise, Osmani will continue her visit to Brussels on December 5 and will hold meetings at the headquarters of NATO's Western military alliance. /REL
