Extreme heat, Kosovo limits working hours for some categories

Even Kosovo is affected by high temperatures, so for this reason, the National Institute of Public Health has called to avoid going outside during the peak, as well as issued a series of recommendations related to this issue.

Based on the recommendations of the IKSHPK, the Ministry of Health has decided that from July 13 to 20, pregnant women will leave work.

According to point 2 of the decision, if pregnant women cannot be released from work, they should work from home.


Also, it was decided that citizens with chronic diseases will work with reduced hours up to 4 hours a day.

DECISION
Limitation of working hours during high temperatures
Based on the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo, due to the significant increase in temperatures in the following days, in order to protect the health of citizens, the Ministry of Health makes a decision to limit the working hours from 13.07.2024 to 20.07.2024 for these categories:
1. From 13.07.2024 to 20.07.2024 pregnant women are released from work.
2. In case of impossibility of dismissal according to paragraph 1 of this decision, pregnant women work from home.
3. From 13.07.2024 to 20.07.2024, citizens with chronic diseases work with reduced hours up to 4 hours a day.
4. From 13.07.2024 to 20.07.2024 work in the construction sector in open premises is prohibited during the hours 11:00 - 17:00 throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
5. Depending on the temperatures prevailing during the months of July and August 2024, other measures are taken.
6. The decision enters into force on the day of signing.
This decision was made keeping in mind the best practices for protecting the health and safety of workers during periods of high temperatures.
