Serbia reacts after recognizing Kosovo's independence from Sudan: Illegal and inappropriate decision

Serbia reacts after recognizing Kosovo's independence from Sudan: Illegal

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia has reacted with deep concern to Sudan's decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of Kosovo. In an official statement, the Serbian MFA describes this step as a "serious violation of the principles of international law" and considers it unacceptable for a country that is, according to it, in conditions of "uncertainty and lack of legitimacy of power".

According to Serbian authorities, the Sudanese government's decision was taken at a time when its capacity to make influential decisions in international relations is questionable. "A government in such conditions cannot make decisions that affect sensitive issues such as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN member states," the statement said.

The Serbian ministry has called on the Sudanese authorities to reconsider Kosovo's recognition, describing this action as hasty and harmful to regional stability. She emphasizes that this step undermines efforts for a peaceful and sustainable solution in the Balkans, also referring to UN Security Council resolutions.

At the end of the reaction, Serbia has asked the international community to uphold the principles of international law and continue to support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which it describes as "the only lasting solution to the Kosovo issue".

With this decision, Sudan becomes the 119th state to officially recognize Kosovo's independence. This development comes shortly after a similar decision by Kenya, which was also fiercely opposed by Serbia, which sees this trend as a direct challenge to its diplomatic position.
