The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly is postponed for the fifth time

The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly has been postponed again on Monday, for the fifth time, following the request of the Vetevendosje Movement (LVV) to reach a political agreement regarding the election of the Speaker of the Assembly. LVV MP Glauk Konjufca declared that the party will not propose Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker again, emphasizing that her candidacy does not enjoy the support of other parliamentary parties.

" We seek a political agreement on this issue to move forward with the functioning of the Assembly ," said Konjufca.

Following this statement, the Speaker of the Assembly, Avni Dehari, decided to adjourn the session, announcing that it would continue after 48 hours.

This is the fifth time that the constitutive session has been postponed, following the February 9 elections in which Vetëvendosje emerged victorious. The first session on April 15 and its continuation on April 17 were interrupted at the first item on the agenda, after political parties could not reach an agreement on the vote of the Commission for the verification of the quorum and mandates.

In the third session on April 19, a consensus was reached to pass this Commission, which enabled the swearing-in of the deputies of the ninth legislature. However, efforts to elect the Speaker of the Assembly have so far failed.

Albulena Haxhiu, the candidate proposed by Vetëvendosje, failed to secure the necessary majority in two rounds of voting held on Saturday, receiving only 57 votes out of the 61 needed.
