Stano for the Serbian media: Kurti is determined to open the Ibri Bridge
The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, spoke about the actions of the Government of Kosovo for the opening of the Ibri Bridge.
In an interview with the Serbian media "N1", he said that the decision to open it should be taken through the dialogue in Brussels, as he said that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, seems to be determined to open the bridge.
" Bridges usually bring people together. Unfortunately, the situation we have in the north of Kosovo and in Mitrovica is the result of a large number of difficult political circumstances. Therefore, we have always said that it is an explosive issue, a problematic issue, and like all problematic issues, it must be resolved through dialogue. Because if you have a problem, then you solve it with dialogue, not with unilateral decisions ", said Stano.
Stano also said that "last week, all the friends of Kosovo, the USA, the most important countries and the European Union, went to Prime Minister Albin Kurti and told him: " Don't do this, don't make unilateral moves, don't open it the bridge. But he seems determined to do so. So we said, 'no, it will have very negative effects'. We ask the authorities to prevent and avoid steps that will lead to greater confrontations and escalation. Because it hurts the people on the ground and it hurts you too, because Kosovo is under EU measures and under some US measures due to the repeated and proven undertaking of movements that lead to escalation. This does not help anyone, on the contrary, it has a very negative effect on a large number of people."
Furthermore, he said that " the European Union is not an intervention force. We do not want to impose on our partners things that the people, the local population, may consider as interference in internal affairs. This is precisely why we work as mediators in the dialogue. The mediator is like a good teacher who tries to make two stubborn students achieve some result. In this case, they start treating each other normally".
