The union that undoes impotence (and its enemies)

The union that undoes impotence (and its enemies)

Alfred Lela

Gazment Bardhi, along with the supporting MPs, after two years, called home once again the Democratic Party, holding a meeting of DPs parliamentary group at its headquarters together with colleagues. After the merger in parliament, yesterday's movement finally proved who the real Democratic Party is and who bears the weight and burden of negotiations on behalf of the democratic people.

The merger was not well received by all, and this should be seen as a favor to public discourse and its understanding because many ideas can be better understood by those who attack them than by those who defend them.

The attackers of the union and its idea have been the same both at the beginning and yesterday. They are all in line with Rama and, for two years, also with Lulzim Basha. Until September 9, 2021, everyone was against Basha, the leader of the DP, and as soon as he made an act that proved to undermine the opposition, they immediately started to like him. So they had a problem with Basha as the leader of the DP, not as its destroyer. The latter made him "a good guy to work with."

The opponents of unity, the left-leaning analysts, and others that I will call here DINO (democrats in name only) show like nothing else that yesterday's union was the right thing and a movement that has worried the opponents of DP and pluralism.

If you notice, these people are not satisfied with anything in DP, not even with division. Rightfully so, because deep in their sociopolitical psyche, they dream the dream of annihilating the first force of political pluralism in Albania. In this way, they are not satisfied with the union either because this removes the possibility of showing Sali Berisha not only as an 'obstacle' to the liberation of Albania from him - and the fall under Edi Rama - but also as a hermit. The latter especially fascinates and frightens them.

So they attack every idea, every act, and every political individual that destroys this old passion, in which Berisha is all alone under their finger that they imagine to be the epic sword of Damocles.

In this light, yesterday's union has produced a disruptive act, perhaps the only one that matters in politics, in 2 years filled with monotony - the mass participation in the July 7 protest ended the rebellious and popular "Pulpit" act and opened a season of relative stagnation.

Naysayers should be ignored, but critics should be heard. Some say this union is valid but doesn't do the job. It remains again a continuation of closure rather than an announcement of opening – or indeed an opening to itself. The union should continue with an all-inclusive opposition. With the merger in the headquarters, the governing bodies of the PD should also be reorganized. The primaries may have fallen now that Bardhi's group will not have time to overcome the poisons of past attacks. For society to trust the DP, it must see an organization with political, ethical, and aesthetic goals.

These are the summaries of what is being said and what could make the post-merger phase a power-generating internal combustion engine, even for a sleepy society like ours. At this stage, the important thing is that yesterday's merger undid the impotence of a two-part party, which looked like an Albanian flag: two heads of the eagle turning towards each other only at night, enough to get out of the myth. During the day, they only adorned the newspeak of unity idle.
