God help the president!

God help the president!

By Gent Çela

Political Albania often brings to mind the title of the song "No face, no name, no number" by Modern Talking.

Departments filled with leaders without a public profile, ousted ministers, deputies and mayors sitting in deep seats, won without a race.

The one man show, in act (mandate) III, is now joined by the role of president.

A name almost unknown to the public is elected head of state. Still without hearing the vocal cords.

The first thing we will hear from him will be the solemnity of the word "I swear!".

And from there straight to the office of the President of the Republic.

Nobody knows what Mr. Bajram Begaj thinks about politics in Albania, corruption, drugs, money laundering in concrete mountains that kill cities, depopulation, the Open Balkans.

Probably not even Mr. Begaj himself knows what the next president thinks about them.

The promptness that took his name out of the prime minister's envelope, after an hermetic meeting where MPs's mobile phones were seized, raises doubts about the fear that the head of state, the former senior military, will or will not be an obedient soldier of power.

Doubts as to whether the allegations under investigation by the SPAK for the alienation of Army property will be (mis) used by the government as a means of blackmail in order to pass abusive laws towards the absolute possession of power for partisan interests.

The process of electing a new president brought with it its own ridiculous part. Even this time, this grotesque trophy could not be snatched from that group of opposition MPs who believed in the generosity of the prime minister to nominate them (the opposition minority) the next president.
The disappointment that Mr. Alibeaj (and a few others) suffered from the breach of trust by Rama & Balla, turns them into an amazing attraction for political followers or for students of Political Science, as vivid examples of how politics should not be done.

And yet, God help the president!
At least he will not disappoint anyone, because no one, or few, can have the thread of expectation at his presidency, conceived in the building with the impenetrable and cold view of the former Bureau.
