How can you tell if an egg is spoiled without breaking it?

One of the most common questions we often hear from housewives is how to check if an egg is spoiled before cracking it.

But the solution exists and it is simple:

First, fill a bowl with cold water and place the egg in it. If the egg sinks to the bottom, then you know it's good. If it sinks but stays in the middle, then it's still good but you should eat it right away as it won't be good for much longer. If it floats, drop it.

The reason old eggs float is because they lose a lot of liquid as time goes by. The liquid inside the egg evaporates from the pores in the shell, so they float instead of sinking.

Always discard eggs that look or smell strange, even if they pass the test.
