America sanctions the former deputy prime minister of North Macedonia

The United States has blacklisted the former deputy prime minister of North Macedonia, Koco Angjushev, prohibiting him from entering the country, due to his involvement in major corruption, the US State Department (DASH) announced on Tuesday.

In a press release, DASH said that while he was deputy prime minister, Angjushevi violated his official position for the benefit of his own private and business interests "thus undermining the trust of the North Macedonian public in their government institutions and processes public".

Angjushev was deputy prime minister from 2017 to 2020, in the government led by Zoran Zaev.

"Today's action proves that the United States stands by those people in North Macedonia who demand accountability for corrupt public officials," DASH said.

In addition to him, the Department announced that it has also banned Angjushev's wife, Elizabeth, as well as his children, Angel and Ogne, from entering the United States.

This decision, the announcement states, reaffirms the commitment of the US to fight corruption, which harms the public interest, hinders the country's economic prosperity, and reduces the ability of governments to respond effectively to the needs of their citizens./ rel
