Bus accidents? Veliaj tries to "wash his hands": the cars are to

We are all used to the accidents that the capital city's buses do from time to time. Someone has been a passenger, someone has been on the road or someone has read the frequent accidents of urban lines in the news.

But maybe you have not been informed about the new thesis "It is not the buses but the cars that are to blame for the accidents". At least this is what the current mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said.

During the presentation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, Mayor Veliaj also spoke about recent cases of bus accidents.

Analyzing the causes, but also the fact of the increase in their number in Tirana, almost 4 times compared to before, Veliaj said that in most of them the accident was caused by a car and not a bus.

" Of the 100 buses we had 8 years ago, today 420 buses circulate in Tirana. Just quadrupling their fleet means there are more vehicles on the road. When someone asks what is happening with bus accidents, they should understand that as Mercedes have increased, so have buses. When we had 100 vehicles and the bus came once every 37 minutes, the probability of accidents was less. When the number of buses has increased and now they come to the station every 7 minutes, the frequency of meeting similar ones, i.e. other motor vehicles, is certainly greater. I have analyzed the last 7 accidents and in 5 cases it was a car that ran into the side of the bus, so out of impatience to get out of the turn it hit the bus," he said.

Urban people are at the station every 7 minutes?! This happens when Veliaj travels with a private car and does not know the problems of the people who sometimes wait 30 minutes at the station, being late for school, work or for their activities.

On the other hand, regarding the other two cases, Veliaj said that both drivers felt bad for health reasons. He also found the opportunity to exonerate himself and the head of the company, saying that: The mayor was not a driver, nor was the head of the company.

Nuk ishte shofer kryetari i Bashkisë, as drejtuesi i kompanisë. As kishte pirë, as po ecte shpejt”, explained Veliaj.
