The court hearing for Safet Gjici will take place today at the Elbasan Court. Gjici has requested conditional release and will be held at 10:00 am behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, the former mayor of Kukës, in a letter addressed to the court a few months ago, had requested that he serve the rest of his sentence at home.
But, the Elbasan Court, with a decision dated January 30, rejected his request, leaving him behind bars. The former mayor, sentenced to 3 years behind bars, has about 1 year left in prison to serve, while he has been hospitalized in a private hospital due to his health condition.
According to his lawyer, Safet Gjici suffers from cardiovascular system problems, aortic enlargement and severe diabetes.
