Rama will demand the lifting of the ban on Marin Mema, Union of Journalists: Delayed action by the government
The Union of Albanian Journalists has called the statement of Prime Minister Edi Rama late, who announced that he will ask Greece to allow the journalist Marin Mema in Greek territory.
"The request of the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, to "review an absurd decision 12 years ago to stop the journalist Marin Mema from entering Greece, is a belated reaction of the government of Albania ," the statement says.
The UGSH says that it has been asking for a long time for the case against Marin Mema to be reviewed, and has even protested in front of the Greek embassy in Tirana and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
"UGSH is the only organization of professional journalists in Albania that has repeatedly raised its voice for this absurd decision of the Greek authorities towards this well-known journalist and several other cases with colleagues from other media. UGSH, regarding this case, has protested in front of the Embassy of Greece in Tirana, in front of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and addressed to the European Federation of Journalists and Reporters without Borders, for solidarity. In several meetings and forums, the UGSH has requested the follow-up of this issue and the reaction of the Greek side for the review of this decision and the non-repetition of obstructive behavior towards journalists for free movement and circulation between our two countries", writes the UGSH.
