SPAK postpones the investigation into Arben Ahmetaj by three months

The Special Prosecution Office has postponed the investigations into former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who has been on the run since July 2023, by three months.

The prosecution notified Ahmetaj's lawyer of the postponement of the investigation until March 2025.

March is the deadline for the Special Prosecution Office to transfer the file to the Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Service, where the court will then decide whether or not to transfer the files for investigation.

The same decision was made for his family members, the cohabitant and ex-wife of the former finance minister.

Ahmetaj is accused of committing three criminal offenses for "money laundering", "hiding assets" and "passive corruption".

In July of last year, the prosecution issued an arrest warrant for Arben Ahmetaj and declared him internationally wanted, while in March 2024 it communicated the charges through his legal counsel.
