The Special Court continues Thaçi's detention: The risks of escape

The Kosovo Special Court in The Hague has decided to extend the detention of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi in the context of a case related to charges of obstruction of justice.

The decision was made by Judge Marjorie Masselot, who emphasized that the risks of flight, obstruction of justice, and the commission of other criminal offenses remain present.

According to the court, there is reasonable suspicion that Thaçi has committed the criminal offenses of revealing an official secret, insulting the court, and obstructing official persons in the performance of their duties.

The charges stem from investigations related to another judicial process in which Thaçi is facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The court has given Thaçi, if he wishes, a deadline of June 27, 2025 to submit his submissions regarding the next detention review. If he does not submit submissions, the Special Prosecution Office must make its submissions by July 7, 2025.
