Plague disease, 150 small cattle die in Val i Martanesh

A small livestock farm in the village of Val in Martanesh, Bulqiza, has been affected by the plague.

Sources indicate that more than 150 heads of cattle have died so far, while the entire herd, which has approximately 700 heads, is at risk.

Specialists from the regional directorate of Agricultural Extension-Dibar, the veterinary service in the region, and those from the Bulqizë municipality have headed to the farm.

A farm in Postribë, Shkodra was quarantined on June 3 after the death of small cattle. In the meantime, blood samples from the cattle were taken by the Veterinary Service in Shkodra for analysis at the veterinary laboratory in Tirana, and the results confirmed the presence of small cattle plague.

Plague is an infectious disease that mainly affects cattle, sheep and goats. Symptoms include high fever, discharge from the nose and eyes, diarrhea, loss of appetite, coughing, and difficulty breathing. It is spread through direct contact between animals, through: secretions from the nose and eyes, and contaminated air in indoor environments.
