The White House announced that the US deputy adviser for national security, Jon Finer, has called on Kosovo and Serbia to escalate the situation in the north.  

The press office of the White House announces that in the phone call of Councilor Finer on Thursday with Prime Minister Albin Kurti and on Friday with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the concern of the USA about the situation in the north was expressed.

In an official announcement, it is stated that the Deputy Chief Advisor for National Security, Jon Finer called on all parties to take steps aimed at de-escalating the situation.

He has asked the Government of Kosovo to enable the newly elected mayors of the municipalities to perform their duties from alternative locations and to withdraw the police forces from the municipal buildings.

Finer also welcomed Prime Minister Kurti's willingness to work to create the conditions for new elections.

The press office of the White House has also announced about Finer's phone call with the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic.

Even in the conversation with the latter, Finer reiterated the position that the United States expects both sides to re-engage in the EU-facilitated dialogue and concern about the situation in the north, urging all parties to take steps aimed at de-escalation of the situation.

He asked the Government of Serbia to withdraw its armed forces stationed near the border and lower the state of readiness, as well as calling on the protesters to remain peaceful in northern Kosovo.
