Alimehmeti: Today in Albania there are no quick tests in pharmacies for Covid-19
The doctor and PD municipal councilor, Ilir Alimehmeti, has stated that today in Albania there are no quick tests in the pharmacy for Covid 19.
Invited to Euronews Albania, he said that rapid tests are necessary to protect family members, colleagues and the community close to us.
"Are there rapid tests for Covid in the pharmacy today? We are in July 2024, 4 years after the pandemic. There are no quick tests at the pharmacy to buy today. Why isn't there? I believe you understand very clearly why there is not. Why did we need them? We needed people to be tested as quickly as possible and to protect family, colleagues, etc.
Second, something very important is the testing of wastewater. We go and take sewage samples and understand the health of the community in a neighborhood, town, city, etc., even though we think there are healthy people, you can constantly find out how the viral situation was evolving. The first is very easy to do and the second is very cheap to do.
The cost of having a laboratory of this type is very low and still does not exist in Albania. Why do we need it? Because it can give us 2 weeks warning that we are heading towards a situation that we may need to engage. 2 weeks is enough, because we can mobilize human resources, financial resources, etc., said Alimehmeti.
