PD deputy, Belind Kelliçi, has described the local elections as vital, as he says that there should be a break from the model of running municipalities by a party.

Invited to the show "Arnautistan" on MCN Tv, Kelliçi said that this is why consensus has been reached in the DP to hold primaries for the first time.

According to him, the primaries are the best way to decide the majority and square the grievances.

"On Monday we had a meeting of the Presidency and the National Council of the Democratic Party, where for the first time no consensus was reached.

The regulations and criteria for having primaries for the first time, there were many discussions, advantages and disadvantages, we had more than 6 hours of debate, that there is an attempt to introduce an innovation in Albanian politics, where the opposition if they like a candidate in the primaries for mayor , to go and vote for it.

The format of the primaries was proposed by Sali Berisha in December 2021, but the modalities were discussed later. We need to open doors for talented young people, professors, academics.

In its entirety, primaries are the best way to decide the majority. Primaries square off grievances, and when done early in time, grievances from losing candidates are picked up along the way. The burden of proof falls on the Democratic Party, to bring in a new flow, " said the deputy.
