Thethi from promotion to demolition/ Hostels visited by officials until

Thethi, one of the tourist pearls of northern Albania, is experiencing days of tension at the peak of the season. Over 40 guesthouses and built facilities have been targeted by the National Inspectorate for Territorial Protection, with the argument that they were built without a permit.

The images of demolitions by excavators in an area that until yesterday was cited as an example of sustainable tourism have aroused anger not only in the local community, but also in public opinion.
The contrast becomes stronger when we remember that senior state officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, have visited and promoted some of these hostels, presenting them as examples and models of inspiration, mainly for young people.

Rama has published images from Thethi on social media, mentioned the hospitality of the residents, and invited owners like Fatmir Berisha and Aida Gjecaj on his podcast.

The latter, owner of "Villa Gjecaj" and wife of a BKH officer, recently faced a suspicious event when her guesthouse caught fire, just a few days after the launch of the IKMT action.
On the other hand, the "Berishta" guesthouse, visited by Rama himself after the inauguration of the tourist zipline, is also on the list of endangered objects.

Owner Fatmir Berisha, previously invited by Ram himself on his podcast, now faces the threat of demolition.

"I wrote to the prime minister, saying that I am one of those who did not flee abroad, but invested in my country, and he invited me to the podcast. Then he came to the guesthouse himself, when the zipline was being inaugurated. But the guesthouse is on my grandfather's land and I do not have ownership documents, so it is considered illegal, " Fatmir Berisha declared to Dritare.net on May 27, 2024.

Let us recall that for days, residents of the area have been protesting that they have not been given the opportunity to legalize, while their investments have been driven by their income and emigration.

This episode in Theth raises important questions about the coherence of public policies, and about the trust that citizens can have in institutions when political discourse does not match the reality on the ground.
