Dangerous summer, number of snake bites increases

High temperatures and drought have significantly increased the circulation of snakes and poisonous insects in rural areas, increasing the number of bites. According to emergency doctors at the QSUT, at least three cases of snakebites are reported every week, mainly in patients coming from rural areas.

A more serious case was recorded this week with a 19-year-old from Cerrik, who was taken to the QSUT with severe cardiac complications, after a bite from a black widow spider. Doctors confirmed that his condition has stabilized thanks to immediate treatment.

The Director of the Health Care Operator, Jeta Deda, said that measures have been taken to equip summer health centers with the necessary medications to cope with emergency situations.

Experts emphasize that in hot and dry periods, like this summer, the concentration of venom in snakes and spiders is higher and therefore even more dangerous to human health.

Unlike mosquitoes, for which the disinfestation process is carried out, the use of chemicals is not allowed for snakes, to protect the fauna and the ecosystem./ Top Channel
