A little light, oh prince...

A little light, oh prince...

Jonathan Pano

Niccolo Machiavelli advised young princes to destroy any influence of the past, establish new laws, and reward those who helped build their loyalty. But Rama is not a new prince. He has ruled for 12 years and, having just received his fourth mandate, is trying to recreate his image through a wave of “drastic reforms,” which are essentially not aimed at building anything new, but at absolute control over every municipality and every critical voice.

The immediate dismissals of local leaders in Vlora, Fier, Durrës and Tirana, the orders for the lands of "xanuna" according to him, and the lies about forgiving fines are nothing more than attempts to destroy any previous alliance and to establish a new loyalty, built on fear and unconditional obedience.

But how can you present yourself as a reformer, when you yourself were the architect of the system that you are now trying to overthrow?

In this theater of power, the residents of Thethi faced the fadromas without a court order. Those who for years built an honest life in the mountains with sweat were suddenly labeled as a problem. Their protest was not a revolt against the law, but against the hypocrisy of those who for a decade silently encouraged them, and today, in the name of "renaissance", are loudly tearing them down.

Migjeni, in "A Sleepless Night", describes injustice as an endless darkness:

"A little light, my friend, a little light, I beg you, on this night when the soul suffers, when it hurts and you don't know what hurts, and there is no sleep."

This is the night Albania finds itself in today. A country where the law is implemented according to the needs of power, and reform is simply another weapon to suppress the citizen.

When an old prince uses the tactics of young princes, the result is not revitalization, but decadence. Albania does not need the recycling of the same power under a new guise, but a real turnaround. And this does not start with hand-picked dismissals or unilateral laws.

It starts with the removal of Rama and the entire political structure that for 12 years has built an abusive, clientelist and hopeless system. Then every order, every law and every decree could be transformed into a tool of justice, not a weapon of absolute rule.
