Vokshi: Albania's EU integration has stalled due to lack of free elections

Democratic MP Albana Vokshi stated that the Socialists in the European Parliament have not been able to defend the electoral farce designed by Edi Rama.

Vokshi stressed that Albania's integration into the EU has stalled due to the lack of free and fair elections.

"The EP is one of the most important institutions, especially for countries like Albania, which is a candidate for the EU. A very long road, and unfortunately in recent years, in the last decade, it has taken steps back, due to misgovernance and the criteria set by the EU. It was spoken for the first time, with open language, talking about the issues that the speeches and resolutions focused on. Here we say that the European journey has also stalled. It is a report that was discussed a few weeks ago in the Foreign Affairs Committee, in the EP, where there were discussions. Even the MEPs, during these two days, have spoken about a series of issues that are related. I am taking up an issue that has also affected us in recent days, about the elections that are part of the first chapter, which has now been opened. That the elections were not free, they were not fair. Even the socialists were unable to defend the elections that Edi Rama organized on May 11. Or the unequal campaign organized by party-state. Even in the Council of Europe, the report on the elections was discussed, and the speeches of the socialists touched on all the issues, such as the misuse of state resources, unequal competition. Other issues were also discussed that have to do with the connection of the government with organized crime, with money laundering in the capital, in tourist areas or in large cities. So there are a number of issues that have been discussed in the institutions in recent weeks. All the institutions, that is, in the Council of Europe, where there was a special session regarding the election report,” Vokshi told SYRI TV.
