28 arrested in Italy and Spain for drug trafficking, including an Albanian

A major anti-drug operation in Italy and Spain has led to the arrest of 28 people involved in an organized drug trafficking network.

Investigations have revealed that the group trafficked large quantities of drugs: over 1 ton of cocaine and 1.5 tons of hashish, which were distributed to several European countries. The network used ports controlled by criminal groups and encrypted communication systems to avoid eavesdropping.

Among those arrested is an Albanian, Riza Muco, 37, who is suspected of being part of this network. He is accused of supplying two associates with 10 kilograms of drugs ready for sale, as well as participating in the organization of cocaine, hashish and marijuana trafficking. The Italian prosecution considers Muco to be part of a mafia organization led by the Marando clan, part of the 'Ndrangheta.

Muco was on trial in Latina alongside two others, Vincenzo Zizzo and Pasquale Spirito. Zizzo is accused of ordering an arson attack on the mayor of Lenola, while Spirito and Muco are accused of drug trafficking.

Five of those arrested were detained in Spain. The operation, codenamed "Anemone", is considered one of the biggest blows to the collaboration between the Italian mafia and Albanian drug trafficking networks.
