Cost of living increases, inflation rises to 2.4% in June, driven by food

Although June is a period when domestic products enter the market, prices have increased at a faster pace than in the same month of the previous year. Instat reported that the annual change in the consumer price index in June 2025 is 2.4%, a year earlier this change was 2.1%.

The increase was mainly influenced by the increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as by the costs of rent, water and energy.

According to the INSTAT announcement, the Consumer Price Index in June 2025 reached 119.2, compared to December 2020.

The annual price increase in June was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with +1.19 percentage points, followed by the group "Rent, water, fuel and energy" with +0.36 percentage points.

Also, the prices of the group "Furniture, home appliances and home maintenance" by +0.22 percentage points, the prices of the group "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by +0.17 percentage points, the prices of the group "Entertainment and culture" by +0.15 percentage points, the prices of the group "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" by +0.10 percentage points, the prices of the groups "Clothing and footwear" and "Miscellaneous goods and services" by +0.07 percentage points each, the prices of the group "Communication" by +0.05 percentage points, the prices of the group "Educational services" by +0.03 percentage points, the prices of the group "Health" by +0.02 percentage points and the prices of the group "Transport" by -0.03 percentage points.

Annual changes of the main groups: Compared to June 2024, the largest price increase is observed in the group "Entertainment and culture" by 6.8%, followed by the groups "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" and "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by 3.5% each, "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" by 3.0%, "Clothing and footwear" and "Rent, water, fuel and energy" by 1.8% each, "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" by 1.7%, "Communication" by 1.6%, "Miscellaneous goods and services" by 1.2%, "Educational services" by 0.9% and "Health" by 0.6%.

On the other hand, the prices of the “Transport” group decreased by 0.5%. Within the food group, the prices of the “oils and fats” subgroup increased by 7.6%, followed by the subgroups “vegetables including potatoes” by 5.3%, “milk, cheese and eggs” by 4.6%, “meat” by 4.0%, “fish” by 2.4%, “fruit” by 1.3%, etc.

Monthly changes of the main groups: Compared to May 2025, the prices of the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" decreased by 0.9%, followed by the group "Clothing and footwear" by 0.3%. On the other hand, the prices of the groups "Entertainment and culture" increased by 0.5%, followed by the groups "Rent, water, fuel and energy" and "Transport" by 0.3% each and "Miscellaneous goods and services" by 0.1%./ Monitor
