Death of 27-year-old in Lipjan, Osmani: To be investigated independently!

Kosovo Police have provided details regarding the death of a 27-year-old man in Lipjan, who lost his life after the intervention of police officers.

According to the official announcement, on July 7 at around 00:12, the Police received six calls from various citizens, who reported a person with aggressive behavior on "Haradin Bajrami" street in Lipjan.

According to them, the person in question posed a general danger to passersby, as he was attacking them, chasing vehicles and attempting to enter them.

"Police units responded immediately and, according to the police, even in their presence the person continued with uncontrollable and dangerous behavior."

The police announced that, due to active resistance and an attempt to attack officers, protective spray was used to neutralize him.

According to the police, prior to the arrest, police officers had attempted for about five to six minutes to communicate and negotiate with the young man to convince him to accompany him to the police station.

"The shift supervisor had also called the ambulance, noting his psychological and health condition. Despite his attempt to escape from the police, the young man was arrested. The ambulance arrived at the scene after three minutes, but the medical team had determined his death," the police stated.

According to the KP, several personal items and a powdery substance suspected to be narcotics were found at the scene.

"The same has been sent for examination."

The police announced that, in addition to investigative units and the Prosecutor for Serious Crimes, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK) also arrived at the scene.

"All evidence, including security camera footage, has been submitted for investigation."

Kosovo Police says it is cooperating closely with all competent institutions to fully investigate the case, and that the final results will be known after the completion of the investigations and the autopsy report.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has reacted after the death of Agon Zejnullah, a 27-year-old man who is suspected of having lost his life during a police operation.

She called this event very serious and shocking, and demanded that the case be investigated immediately, independently and professionally.

She stressed that full transparency and institutional accountability are essential. The President has called for uncompromising justice in this case.

By order of the State Prosecutor, a criminal investigation was initiated and the body of the deceased was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.

Four police officers and a sergeant were placed under investigation upon the recommendation of the PIK and were sent to prison after the offense was re-qualified.
