Trump promises US will send more weapons to Ukraine
US President Donald Trump said the United States will send more weapons to Ukraine, mainly defensive weapons, to help the war-torn country defend itself from growing Russian advances.

Washington's decision to halt some arms shipments to Kiev prompted it to warn that the move would limit its ability to defend against Russian air strikes and battlefield advances, while drawing criticism from Democrats and some of Trump's fellow Republicans, Reuters writes .

“We’re going to send more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves,” Trump told reporters at the White House at the start of a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“They’re being hit very hard right now,” he added. “We’re going to have to send more weapons, primarily defensive weapons.”
In a statement, the U.S. Defense Department later said it would send additional defensive weapons to Ukraine at Trump’s direction, to ensure that Ukrainians can defend themselves as efforts continue to secure a lasting peace.
