Tourist operator in Theth: They are demolishing our houses without warning

A tourist operator and resident of Theth, Arian Cerku, has spoken about the action to demolish unauthorized constructions in this tourist area, expressing dissatisfaction with the way the authorities are acting.

Speaking to Euronews Albania, he said that the action was carried out unexpectedly and without prior information, which has created uncertainty among local residents and entrepreneurs.

"I have a small guesthouse. A year ago I started building on land and built a house for myself. They came and fined us, we built when there was no one here because we built without permission, but just like everyone else built, I built too."

The Inspectorate came and imposed fines. I personally did not receive any warning about the demolitions, as far as I know today. Today there was talk that 6 buildings would be demolished, but we do not know which ones they were. No one told us. When you receive a fine from the municipality's IMT or the Police Inspectorate, you will receive a letter to take home. I have not received anything at the moment, I am talking about the village part ," said Cerku.

He added that there is talk in the village of about 90 buildings that will be demolished, but none of the owners has received an official document setting a deadline for removal or legal action.

"90% of the cases that are being discussed, which are 90 objects, none of them have a warning document where a deadline of 5 days, 1 month or an hour can be given ," he said.
