Massacred his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Bujar Fandaj sentenced to life

Bujar Fandaj, 40, who lived in Altivole, Italy, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Vanessa Ballan, 26, which occurred in Riese Pio X on December 19, 2023.

The Treviso Court of Serious Crimes ruled this, accepting the prosecution's request at the end of a trial that reconstructed in detail the dramatic epilogue of a relationship that ended months ago and that was never acknowledged by the defendant.

Vanessa, a young mother expecting her second child, was found dead by her new partner in the home they shared.

Her body bore numerous stab wounds, inflicted with indescribable violence (at least 8 stab wounds). She was on maternity leave and worked as a cashier at a local supermarket.

Suspicions immediately focused on Fandaj, with whom Vanessa had had an extramarital affair, which ended in the summer of 2023 at her request. Fandaj did not take the breakup lightly and launched a harassment campaign against her, culminating in the dissemination of intimate images, sent to the young woman's partner with the aim of revenge.

For these facts, Fandaj was charged with stalking and revenge pornography. This action temporarily put an end to his harassing behavior. But the break was temporary. According to the investigators' reconstruction, on December 19, 2023, Fandaj forced open a window and entered the woman's house. There, armed with a knife, he stabbed Vanessa eight times, leaving her lifeless on the floor. He then tried to flee Italy.

However, he was arrested a few hours later by the Carabinieri at his home. At first he confessed to the incident, but then tried to minimize his responsibility by denying premeditation. But the evidence collected, including the details of the attack and the messages that preceded the murder, convinced the Court of his complete guilt.
