Self-talk, the secret that helps us calm our minds

Experts believe that every person needs to have a "self-talk" and establish an internal monologue.

Have you ever caught yourself talking out loud, to yourself? Don't be afraid, on the contrary, do it more often! According to experts, talking to yourself is not a sign of a disorder, but a natural way to clarify thoughts, better understand emotions and build self-confidence.

Psychotherapist and renowned author Lisa Ferenc emphasizes that internal monologue directly affects our emotional state and consciousness. “There is nothing more important than the way we talk to ourselves. What we say to ourselves shapes the way we see the world,” Ferenc explains.

If you start your day with negative phrases, self-critical thoughts, and self-doubt, the opportunity to experience positive moments decreases. For this reason, Ferenc advises building a gentler, more understanding, and motivating inner monologue.

One of the exercises she suggests to her patients is this: write down the things you like about yourself, the reasons you're grateful for, and the qualities that make you special. Then stand in front of a mirror and say them out loud. Even if it seems ridiculous at first, don't give up. Recent studies have shown that students who have practiced this technique have managed to change their perspective, attitude, and even relationships with others.

Many professional athletes talk to themselves before competitions, and we can all do it. Saying positive thoughts out loud gives you the strength to face challenges and cope with daily pressure.

However, Ferenc warns: whispering negative thoughts out loud can actually reinforce them. So when you talk to yourself, do so with kind, truthful, and motivating words. To make it easier: think of yourself as talking to your best friend.

At the end of the day, how you talk to yourself is the starting point for how you talk to the world. And every word counts!
