"56 thousand apartments remain empty"/ PL: Tirana has been transformed

The Secretary General of the Freedom Party, Brunilda Haxhiu, in a statement to the media denounced the alarming situation of unsold apartments in Tirana, describing it as an "urban massacre" organized by the construction mafia with the blessing of the government and the municipality.

Haxhiu stressed that while thousands of Albanian families suffer from high rents and a lack of affordable housing, over 56,000 apartments remain empty, testifying to an urban criminal model that serves the interests of builders and power-connected oligarchs, rather than the needs of citizens.

Full statement

Today we are faced with an unprecedented situation and a painful paradox: On the one hand, over 56 thousand apartments in Tirana remain empty, unsold, and on the other hand, thousands of Albanian families struggle to afford unaffordable rents, live in squalor and without security for their children's housing.

This is not a random crisis, but a direct consequence of an urban criminal model, consciously constructed by this government and this municipality. A model where construction is not done for the needs of citizens, but for the interests of builders connected to power. A model that serves only money laundering, financial speculation and Rama's clientele, while the ordinary citizen is excluded, squeezed and humiliated.

Tirana has been transformed into a concrete washing machine, in flagrant violation of the law. With the blessing of the government and the municipality, the following have been openly violated:

The city's regulatory plan, approving multi-story buildings in areas where parks or low-rise buildings were foreseen;
the Law on Territorial Planning, through manipulations with construction coefficients and distances from existing streets and neighborhoods;
the constitutional principles of transparency and equality before the law, favoring a handful of construction oligarchs with direct political connections.
It is built without a plan, without transparency and without any social sensitivity.
It is built to erect towers, not to build well-being.
It is built to hide money, not to guarantee housing.
This is the reality of Tirana:
Apartments that are not lived in, but are kept to inflate the wealth of the oligarchs.
Tents that collapse for media show, but palaces that are erected on every piece of land.
A city that no longer lives, but only makes noise, concretes, pollutes and destroys.

This is not irresponsibility, but a well-organized urban massacre by the construction mafia with the blessing of the government.
The Freedom Party strongly denounces this urban crime that is destroying the lives of thousands of citizens and the future of Tirana. We demand an immediate investigation into the origin of funds in the construction sector. Drafting of an emergency program for social housing and affordable housing. Political and criminal accountability for the concrete policies that have ignored every legal and moral norm.
The city cannot be a paradise for millionaires connected to power.
The city must be functional for citizens!
For young people who want to build a life in their country, not to flee abroad due to the inability to find shelter and for a quality life.
For families who need security, not for the monthly stress of rent.
Enough with facades and propaganda.
Tirana belongs to the citizens, not to the concrete mafia.
